MSC Helps Bring Clean Water To Liberia, Again!

MSC has partnered with Living Water International for the second time helping to bring clean water to the small community of Broom Town, Liberia.  Broom Town is a struggling, but strong community. Their strengths are evident as they still exist today after surviving many attacks from the rebels during the war and losing many of their husbands and sons during that time.  They are a poor community to say the least whose main source of income is from the making and selling of brooms.

The town’s initial water source was a creek that ran alongside a dirt road.  Women wash their dishes and clothes in this creek daily and children can be seen playing in the water.  However, this same creek is also their only source of drinking water.  The people of Broom Town told us they didn’t like drinking the dirty water, “because it made their stomachs hurt and brought worms.”

On the morning of June 6th equipment was brought in to begin drilling.  The drilling progressed quickly and once the soft clay layers had been penetrated signs of water became apparent.  When the rock layer was reached they began hammer drilling and soon were into a good aquifer producing a great quantity of water.  Throughout the drilling members of the community stayed near watching with interest, many of the young men lending a hand where they could.  The next morning the permanent well casing was set in place and the development of the well began. As the first surge of air was pumped into the casing a burst of muddy water shot out creating a buzz of talk amongst the community members.  As development continued the water flow grew clearer and increased until at completion the well was producing an estimated 80 gallons per minute.

Joy was now the only emotion filling the hearts of Broom Town’s 300 residents.  Children were dancing and posing for pictures with other town leaders giving thanks to the Lord for His provision.  No longer will the water that this community drinks make them sick, they now have clean water to drink and cook with.  All of at MSC thank you for helping us be a part of this project making a difference a world away, with a basic essential that we all take for granted!

Our Mission

Mitchell Swaback Charities was started October 15th, 2004. Our purpose is to continue to impact individuals, organizations and families as Mitch has done so many times. We want to continue Mitch's compassion to serve in missions, the church and to honor God in the way Mitch did on a daily basis. We will continue to form partnerships that will allow us to expand our ministry.

Through the many opportunities that surround us, we look forward to making a difference.

We will honor the Lord in all we do. Learn more >>

Mitch's Story

For 23 years our son Mitch etched memories into the hearts of everyone he met. He was as real as they come. What he meant to us and to so many others now belongs to the legacy we will cherish forever.

At Mitch's going-home service Pastor James MacDonald used one word that best described Mitch: "Maximum." Read more >>
