MSC had the highest number of applications come in this year for consideration for the Torch Scholarship. After each application was scored, the top 7 were interviewed by a panel of 4 judges. Luke and Laurel came out on top barely beating out their competition.
All of us at MSC would to thank each and every student who applied for this year’s scholarship, there are some top achieving, outstanding students who represent HCA very well. This month MSC would like to highlight Luke and how winning this scholarship has impacted his life. Next, month we’ll take a look at how this honor has impacted Laurel. Please read below Luke’s answer to our interview and CONGRATS again to Luke and Laurel!

1. What does receiving the Torch Award mean to you?
Receiving the Torch Award this year has been a complete blessing from the Lord
to me and my family. I would like to thank the Mitchell Swaback Charities
for granting such a wonderful opportunity.
2. How will receiving the Torch Award impact your life next school year at
HCA?
The award has really taught me about God’s providence, no matter the situation.
I will definitely take advantage of what I will learn this coming year.
3. What are some things you’re looking forward to getting involved in next
year at HCA?
I’ll be looking into getting involved in HCA athletics, advanced academic
courses, and chapel worship team.
4. Tell us your grade level for next year and as well as sport teams you
participate on.
I will be entering my junior year and will be participating in Harvest’s men’s soccer and
volleyball programs.
5. How do you strive to be a ‘torch’ for the Lord among your family,
friends and peers?
Striving to be a torch for Christ is not a request, it’s a command. Having
spiritual maturity and utmost reverence for the Lord brings about the light that
we need to shine every day. I hope that family, friends, and others around me
notice the attributes of God through my words and actions. That’s our purpose,
to glorify God in everything, so we can be beacons of light in a world of
darkness.
