2009 Award Recipients
We're pleased to announce the 2009 recipients of the "Torch Award" are: Emma Patchak and Kody McCormick.
Thank you so much for selecting me as a Torch Award scholarship recipient. Being awarded this scholarship was truly an answer to prayers for both me and my family. I am honored to be one of the two recipients chosen to carry the torch and I look forward to holding up Mitch’s Spirit and Legacy throughout the 09/10 school year. I pray that God will provide me the grace to hold the torch high, to be a good example to others and to live my life in a way that best represents my Lord and Savior.
On a practical level for my everyday life, this scholarship has provided me added motivation to strive for excellence as Mitch did throughout his life! I am glad to have the opportunity to continue my education at HCA, where the teachers and staff do a good job of integrating Christ into every subject. This is especially true on the playing field, where the coaches have taught us how to bring Christ onto the field through both prayer and attitude. I look forward to a winning basketball and soccer season and I can’t wait to see how God will continue using us to fulfill His purpose here.
Isaiah 55:10-11 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the things for which I sent it.”
Thank You again for this wonderful gift!
In His Hands,
Emma Patchak
Receiving the torch award this year was an amazing blessing to my family and I. It means so much to me to be honored with such an award. I feel compelled to make known to others what was so great about Mitch and I will try my hardest to reflect Godly character in all that I put my hands to. Recently I have been reminded of how fragile life is as I almost lost one of my closest friends to a parasailing incident. It's hard for me to keep quiet about how important the Lord is to me and how vital it is for others to come to know him.
I am thankful to the Swaback family for finding strength through their severe loss and pain to establish this foundation. No recipient, including myself, will come close to filling Mitch's shoes. I can only hope I steward this privilege to further the cause of Christ. Thanks for the opportunity and generosity shown to me.
Kody McCormick
