Staci Hoover: Journal Entry #2

A wise man once said that one's strength can at times be one's weakness.  That is very true for athletes, specifically “tri-geeks” such as myself.  The type of personality the sport attracts is often the type A sort.  There's this underlying sense that I should be working- out more, and what I'm doing is not enough.  As we all know from life experience, more is not necessarily better.  In the past, I have run extra miles or biked an extra hour, telling myself I would be better equipped and more efficient in a race.  What it ends up producing is a physically and mentally tired, stale, over trained individual.  At times throughout my training, I will have to remind myself when I know my body needs to rest, as well as pump myself up for workouts that can seem insurmountable.

What a parody on life huh? And they say that jocks are stupid!

I am currently on week's #2-5 on an 18-week training plan.  Average week is as follows:

Monday: 5 mile run and 1250 yard swim
Tuesday:  Active rest day, 90 minutes of 110 degree Bikram yoga
Wednesday:  5 mile run and half hour weight training
Thursday:  1 hour bike and 1000 yard swim
Friday:  2800 yard swim
Saturday: 6 mile run
Sunday:  1 hour 45 minute bike with heart rate monitor following specific endurance building zones based on my heart rate

Our Mission

Mitchell Swaback Charities was started October 15th, 2004. Our purpose is to continue to impact individuals, organizations and families as Mitch has done so many times. We want to continue Mitch's compassion to serve in missions, the church and to honor God in the way Mitch did on a daily basis. We will continue to form partnerships that will allow us to expand our ministry.

Through the many opportunities that surround us, we look forward to making a difference.

We will honor the Lord in all we do. Learn more >>

Mitch's Story

For 23 years our son Mitch etched memories into the hearts of everyone he met. He was as real as they come. What he meant to us and to so many others now belongs to the legacy we will cherish forever.

At Mitch's going-home service Pastor James MacDonald used one word that best described Mitch: "Maximum." Read more >>
