Staci Hoover: Journal Entry #1

James 1:2-4

"Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy.  For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.  So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything."

The particular "trouble" I'm speaking of was in the form of a foot.  It was June of 2000 and I had entered the water of my first triathlon.  My heart way racing as I set out to regulate my stroke.  I just about had it down when a foot landed smack in the middle of my face right when I was trying to breathe.  I wanted to swim to the side and call it quits, the frenzied chaos of fellow swimmers was just too much for me to handle.  Then I remembered the hours I put into learning how to swim freestyle, and the endless laps to develop my fitness in the water. I kept swimming, taking it one stroke at a time.

In the coming months I will share with you how training for the three disciplines of the triathlon run parallel to our lives and the things God wants us to learn.  Had I quit that day, I would never have had a chance to feel the joy of completing the swim, never reveled in the realization that I was stronger mentally and physically than I had imagined.  That kick in the face made me stronger.

Check-In

I am currently working on maintaining my fitness base. This includes biking, running, and swimming with  less intensity and duration. I have even tested my mettle in yoga and can now touch my toes without wincing in pain!  In the middle of January, the fun starts and I will be on a strict regimen to get me across the finish line in under six hours (I hope!).

Our Mission

Mitchell Swaback Charities was started October 15th, 2004. Our purpose is to continue to impact individuals, organizations and families as Mitch has done so many times. We want to continue Mitch's compassion to serve in missions, the church and to honor God in the way Mitch did on a daily basis. We will continue to form partnerships that will allow us to expand our ministry.

Through the many opportunities that surround us, we look forward to making a difference.

We will honor the Lord in all we do. Learn more >>

Mitch's Story

For 23 years our son Mitch etched memories into the hearts of everyone he met. He was as real as they come. What he meant to us and to so many others now belongs to the legacy we will cherish forever.

At Mitch's going-home service Pastor James MacDonald used one word that best described Mitch: "Maximum." Read more >>
