My daughter, Sarah, and I started running 5K’s together a few years ago. This year we have fallen off the wagon for a variety of reasons. When I saw that Mitchell Swaback Charities was represented in the Chicago 5K, I decided to polish up my running shoes a bit and get better prepared for that race. I will be running solo as Sarah has a tennis tournament that same weekend. I am a high school math teacher at Hersey, my husband teaches business and computers at Oak Park River Forest and my daughter is a senior at Palatine, so there are a variety of multi-colored loyalty sweatshirts in the wash.

Mitchell Swaback Charities is my favorite ministry for a variety of reasons. First, I personally knew Mitch from his days at Hersey, and the rest of his family from our interactions at Harvest. Second, everything the organization does is accomplished with extreme care and diligence in monetary stewardship, workmanship, heart, and communicating the utmost of respect and love for the recipients of their labor. Third, they have managed to channel Mitch’s vision and heart beat and he would be so pleased by all that is being done in his name. Finally, and most importantly, they are honoring The Name- Mitch’s family has shown us all how to grieve with hope and how to honor God in the face of suffering and loss. I am humbled by the scattered opportunities I have had to shoulder next to them in their various ministry events.

Our Mission

Mitchell Swaback Charities was started October 15th, 2004. Our purpose is to continue to impact individuals, organizations and families as Mitch has done so many times. We want to continue Mitch's compassion to serve in missions, the church and to honor God in the way Mitch did on a daily basis. We will continue to form partnerships that will allow us to expand our ministry.
