My name is Julee Hoffner and I am another one of Mitch’s many cousins. Memories of Mitch continue to resonate in my mind often because of his unique original personality and character. Mitch was someone who lived every day of his life with enthusiasm and optimism. He was fearless and never afraid of a challenge. My best memory of Mitch was when he came to visit us in Arizona and I had a basketball game that I was not particularly enthused or excited about. He looked at me with disgust and said, “How can you have this attitude? You get to go out and play the best game ever and beat up on some people!” He then proceeded to shake me, pick me up, and put me over his shoulder and scream in my face. He said, “Get pumped up and kick their butts!” I never approached a basketball game the same way again for the next five years through college! The best part of Mitch was that he had a heart for Christ. I am so incredibly excited to climb Mount Shuksan! I will be thinking of how Mitch would approach the climb, with determination and fearless!
I am also really excited to be climbing with my brother, Jeff Harbeck, he has been asking me now for a few years so I finally agreed. I enjoy a challenge and something to work towards, what better than a giant glacier covered mountain!!!
