2010 Summit Climb: Five WENT UP and Five CAME DOWN! Mt. Shuksan Recap

mt climb msc july 2010 057

Five climbers set out on Friday, July 9th with a goal of climbing Mt. Shuksan and raising money to support some of the many projects MSC is working on. Mt. Shuksan is a picturesque mountain in the snowy north cascades of Washington. However, it would be a long and treacherous road ahead as the trailhead was still closed due to the large amounts snow late in the season.

Along with a qualified guide and carrying heavy packs the climbers set out in a snow filled valley to make a forward to "base camp." The day happened to be one of the hottest on record and after 5 hours we had to stop to set up camp for the night. Everyone was up early at 2:30 the next morning to get ready to depart. After a 14 hour round trip of hiking two of the climbers made the main summit with the remaining three hikers making the north summit. All five climbers spent four hours the next day trekking back down the mountain.

On behalf of the entire group and MSC we would like to thank all the people who joined us on this climb with pledges and prayers alike. All climbers involved said it was a memorable and enjoyable experience! One that would have been right up Mitch's alley.

MSC sends out a big thank you to all of our climbers: Jeff Harbeck, Alexandrea Valentine, Nolan Robinett, Andy DeVore, and Julee Hoffner. We also give thanks to the Lord for their safe return to their families and for their fundraising efforts! Stay tuned for the next way you can be involved with MSC!

Our Mission

Mitchell Swaback Charities was started October 15th, 2004. Our purpose is to continue to impact individuals, organizations and families as Mitch has done so many times. We want to continue Mitch's compassion to serve in missions, the church and to honor God in the way Mitch did on a daily basis. We will continue to form partnerships that will allow us to expand our ministry.

Through the many opportunities that surround us, we look forward to making a difference.

We will honor the Lord in all we do. Learn more >>

Mitch's Story

For 23 years our son Mitch etched memories into the hearts of everyone he met. He was as real as they come. What he meant to us and to so many others now belongs to the legacy we will cherish forever.

At Mitch's going-home service Pastor James MacDonald used one word that best described Mitch: "Maximum." Read more >>
