Andy DeVore

Age: 30
Status: Married to Abby, the mother of my boy JED
Relationship to Mitch: His personal wrestling dummy
Faith: Livin by the Sword
Occupation: Working on mysteries without any clues
Thoughts: Ain't it funny how the night moves
Favorite climbing aid: Little dudes

I can see myself now, standing on the summit of Baker; the earth below me with nothing but the Heaven's above me.

I previously lived in southern Wisconsin which is where I developed a close friendship with Mitch and Jeff.  I moved out to Washington a little over a year after Mitch's death to pursue a change in lifestyle.  I don't think I would have moved otherwise, or at least at that time.  I had always thought of living in a more outdoors kind of place and thoughts on the shortness of life tend to have an influence on ideas like that.

Since moving out to Washington, Jeff has challenged me with the addition of mountain climbing to my hobby list.  It has become quite convenient for us both to use my proximity to the mountains to tackle peaks together, and one by one we are knocking out the giants in the Cascades.

When you lose a friend, there becomes is a hole in your chest.  I fill that "Mitch" hole by climbing mountains with Jeff.  Nothing brings me closer to Heaven and the feeling I used to have with Mitch than that.

Our Mission

Mitchell Swaback Charities was started October 15th, 2004. Our purpose is to continue to impact individuals, organizations and families as Mitch has done so many times. We want to continue Mitch's compassion to serve in missions, the church and to honor God in the way Mitch did on a daily basis. We will continue to form partnerships that will allow us to expand our ministry.

Through the many opportunities that surround us, we look forward to making a difference.

We will honor the Lord in all we do. Learn more >>

Mitch's Story

For 23 years our son Mitch etched memories into the hearts of everyone he met. He was as real as they come. What he meant to us and to so many others now belongs to the legacy we will cherish forever.

At Mitch's going-home service Pastor James MacDonald used one word that best described Mitch: "Maximum." Read more >>
