1. Tell us about yourself and your family?
I am Liz Reynolds, 29 yrs old not just 30 yet and live in Palatine, IL.

2. Have you ever done a half or full marathon before?
Nope, Nicolee challenged me into signing up for a half marathon and I never turn down a challenge. Bring it On!!!!

3. What are your biggest challenges for this race and what is your goal?
My biggest challenge that I am facing is running 13 miles straight since the most I have ran would be an 8K race. What is 8 more miles? I would say my goal for this race is to train the best I can so I can run the entire race and cross that finish line. Another goal would be able to walk the next day.

4. How did you know Mitch?
Who didn’t know Mitch is the question. I met Mitch back in the early 90’s (sporting his famous flat top haircut) and watched him grow up to be a fine young lad (model pictures to prove it). I considered Mitch a brother, a friend, and a member of the Ronnie Woo Woo Fan Club. Cubs Woo Cubs Woo!!!

5. Why are you doing this race for MSF?
I feel this is something I can contribute towards this amazing foundation started in honor of Mitch, and I can not let him down or I would never hear the end of it. He will be watching over us all that day and will push us all to cross that finish line.

October Update  •  Monday, October 01, 2007

1. Would you or are you planning on running this distance again?
This question has crossed my mind and I think it would be possible to conquer again, but I am leaning more towards a triathlon.  Any takers?

2. Lastly please write something to each of your sponsors, it can be a thank you, you can let them know we met our goal; share a verse, something from your heart.
I wanted to thank all of my sponsors that have supported both myself and the Mitchell Swaback Foundation.  We would have not been able to meet our goal if it wasn’t for your generosity.  I also wanted to thank Nicolee aka “Coach” for putting me to this challenge and keeping me on track with my training.  Thanks again from the bottom of my heart.

I leave you with my favorite Irish Blessing:
May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, May the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.

September Update  •  Wednesday, August 29, 2007

1. Share with us your workout schedule for August?
I have been working out through the week running, biking, weights, and still getting in that long run each week.  Hope to put in a 10 mile run this week a week prior to race day.  I might have to run this past Coach Colee.

2. How are you holding up physically and mentally?
Physically I feel that I am ready to take on this challenge that I signed up for back in April.  The training that I have done this summer will hopefully pay off.  Mentally I am trying to prepare myself for race day and not psych myself out.  Is it September 9th yet?

3. Athlete’s Journal:  Please make this your journal for the month of August and share with us everything and anything you would like?
Taking on this challenge has opened my eyes in taking better care of myself by getting back into the workout world.  I plan on keeping up with my workouts after I cross that finish line.  Next year, I plan on taking on another challenge and participate in a mini triathlon.  Nicolee are you ready to take on my challenge to you?

I want to thank all my sponsors that provided inspirational comments that will help me cross that finish line and especially thank you all for donating to the Mitchell Swaback Foundation.  This foundation has changed my outlook in life and hope that I can spread the word as Mitch would all want us too.  Mitch this race is for you!!!!

August Update  •  Thursday, August 02, 2007

1. What makes you keep going on a day when you just aren’t having a good run or training day?
I have this friend that tells me all about her incredible coach that pushes her and she persists to act like my coach.  Thanks Colee!!! I can’t let her down as we keep in touch after our long runs each weekend.  Did you get it?? Is always the question we ask each other and I can’t be the one that doesn’t get it.  I have challenged a friend to also run on September 9th and I share the knowledge that I receive from Coach Colee.   Now that is one ripple effect!!!

2. What things are you doing to prepare physically and mentally for the marathon?
I’m keeping up with my longs runs each week getting closer to that lucky number 13.  Just trying to stay healthy and keep up with the training until the very end.  It’s not going to be easy as my body is feeling it every time I up my long run, but it will pay off come race day.  Mitch motivates me as he would be calling me lazy Liz if I didn’t get out of bed and push myself.

3. In what ways are your family or friends helping support you while training?
They are always asking how training is going and will be there to cheer me on come race day.  We are going to have one big party after this race, if I am able to walk.  My sponsors and soon to be sponsors have inspired me to give it my all.

Is there anyone in particular that helps motivate you?
Tony Little with his famous words YOU CAN DO IT!!! I would have say that would be Nicolee, she keeps me focused by giving me encouragement and always puts me up to the challenge.

4. Athletes Journal:
The last month of training I plan on conquering 10 miles maybe more if my body lets me.  Hope to run a 10k to prepare myself running in an actual race.  This month is my month to shine and need to really stay focus with my training.

July Update  •  Monday, July 02, 2007

1. With three months remaining before your race what’s going through your mind?
There are many things that are racing through my mind, but the one thing that stands out the most is focusing on the increase my long runs each week.

2. What is your training schedule for the month of July?
Increasing my interval running and being able to conquer 10 miles straight by the end of July.

3. What is your long run up to?
My longest run at this time has been 5 miles.

4. Athletes Journal:
I try and push myself everyday to become both physically and emotionally prepared for this race in September.  By being a sponsor for the MSF it challenges me to keep going strong as I am making a difference in helping raise money for a great cause that I believe in.  I also don’t want to let my sponsors down that have sponsored me.  I am keeping the faith!!! As Tony Little would say, “YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!”

Our Mission

Mitchell Swaback Charities was started October 15th, 2004. Our purpose is to continue to impact individuals, organizations and families as Mitch has done so many times. We want to continue Mitch's compassion to serve in missions, the church and to honor God in the way Mitch did on a daily basis. We will continue to form partnerships that will allow us to expand our ministry.

Through the many opportunities that surround us, we look forward to making a difference.

We will honor the Lord in all we do. Learn more >>

Mitch's Story

For 23 years our son Mitch etched memories into the hearts of everyone he met. He was as real as they come. What he meant to us and to so many others now belongs to the legacy we will cherish forever.

At Mitch's going-home service Pastor James MacDonald used one word that best described Mitch: "Maximum." Read more >>
