Holding on to Hope March 2010 Update 2

As you know, Mitchell Swaback Charities has partnered with Holding on to Hope Ministries.

In Mark 2:5 some men of great faith lower their crippled friend down through a hole in the roof to get him near Jesus. In seeing their faith Jesus makes a fascinating statement; “My son your sins are forgiven.”

Healing a broken soul is a far more difficult thing than healing broken bodies. Jesus doesn’t address the obvious disability; he goes right for the man’s heart. The ever confused religious officials whispered their incredulity to each other. The more things change…

I fear at times that our religious officials of today ignore the deep pain and wounds in the heart to treat the whitewashed outside. Jesus desires only the soul. He wants so dearly to share with us the “living water” that quenches our deepest thirst. We do such a good job of hiding the thirst and covering the fear of letting ourselves be loved…and to love well.

I was in Denver this past month for spiritual transformation training. Our Lord is so good. I have pondered a lot the last three months about the ministry. There are so many wounded souls hiding in the darkness. Providing soul-care and guidance is a direction Jill and I are prayerfully wishing to make a part of Holding on to Hope. I don’t know what that looks like at this moment. God is stirring in our hearts the desire to reach deeply into the lives of the fellow wounded. It takes a lot of time and only the spirit can do the work. Pray for us as we pursue this path. I will be attending training for survivors of sexual abuse in May with Dan Allendar.

I have the opportunity to be on the radio with Don Smarto in Dallas this month. If you have never heard of Don, please check out his website and life story: www.youthdirect.org. It is incredibly inspiring. Don has invited me for two shows to discuss Holding on to Hope and the vision for the wounded. We will be recording on March 18th. Keep it in your prayers. I will have CDs of the broadcast the end of March.

Thank you for your continued prayer and support for this ministry. Two years ago this week I began the paper work for non-profit status. Thanks for partnering in this journey.

Our Mission

Mitchell Swaback Charities was started October 15th, 2004. Our purpose is to continue to impact individuals, organizations and families as Mitch has done so many times. We want to continue Mitch's compassion to serve in missions, the church and to honor God in the way Mitch did on a daily basis. We will continue to form partnerships that will allow us to expand our ministry.

Through the many opportunities that surround us, we look forward to making a difference.

We will honor the Lord in all we do. Learn more >>

Mitch's Story

For 23 years our son Mitch etched memories into the hearts of everyone he met. He was as real as they come. What he meant to us and to so many others now belongs to the legacy we will cherish forever.

At Mitch's going-home service Pastor James MacDonald used one word that best described Mitch: "Maximum." Read more >>
